New Hybrid & Electric Import Options

Thanks to some pre-emptive changes ahead of the new SEVS regulations which will apply from 10 December this year, we can now import a growing range of secondhand and new hybrid and electric vehicles.

Australia is lagging well behind most other high carbon footprint countries on reforming the transport sector to combat climate change, so the new regulations are a very welcome step in the right direction for the environment and consumer choice.

What’s Coming ?

Hybrid, fully electric and kei (micro) car import options will greatly increase from 2019 onward.

It will be possible to import virtually ANY low emissions model to Australia by 2020 – providing it was not sold here new.

This will include the Toyota Estima Hybrid, Smart EQ Fortwo Coupe, 2017 to 2019 Nissan Leaf Gen 2, plus many others.

So what’s available right now ?

Here are just a few of the choices:

2014 – 2019 Toyota Hybrid 1.8L 7 / 8 seat people movers – Noah, Voxy, Esquire

From $30,000 complied, these are about half the price of the larger Alphard / Vellfire luxury MV’s and will drop into the $20K price range over the next couple of years.

A great replacement option for your aging petrol people mover with over 70% fuel saving possible in most cases.
