Lexus RX 450h Hybrid Import Information and SEVS import eligibility for Australia
The 2WD versions of the January 2009 to December 2015 Lexus RX 450h hybrid (GYL10) and 2015 to 2022 Lexus RX 450h hybrid (GYL20) luxury hybrid SUV models can be imported to Australia from Japan.
Both 10 and 20 series RX 450h models from Japan are 5-seater and operate on a V6 3.5L petrol hybrid system – the earlier GYL10 uses Toyota’s 2GR-FXE engine while the later GYL20 uses Toyota’s improved 2GR-FXS with an eCVT P313 / Q211 transmission.
*The RX450h 4WD versions (GYL15 and GYL25, GYL26) are not eligible for import to Australia as Lexus sold them here new.
NOTE: The 2023+ RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid would also be available for import under SEVS from 2024 if Lexus Australia does not sell them here new. The new RX 450h+ uses a smaller 4 cylinder 2.5L engine combined with a large-capacity 18.1kWh lithium-ion battery pack designed for performance, efficiency and up to 86 km of EV-only driving.
This page is for the 2009 to 2015 Lexus RX 450h hybrid (GYL10) 2WD.
If you are looking for an equivalent luxury hybrid SUV 4WD with PHEV plug-in option that can be used as a full EV in real life driving and is available right now check out the Toyota RAV4 PHEV which will do almost 100km on EV-only mode at speeds of up to 135 km/h.
Due to more rapid depreciation in Japan than Australia (and 2WD versus 4WD), in most cases the Lexus RX 450h import price will be substantially cheaper than local pricing for equivalent year and km.
The Lexus RX 450h hybrid import from Japan is possible in several 5-seat model choices.

Contact us for current availability and pricing if you would like to import your own RX 450h hybrid to Australia.
Every vehicle of interest to our clients is carefully inspected in person at auction, with more pictures provided along with market pricing guidance to help set the budget.
There is a good selection of RX 450h hybrid 2WD models going through auction in Japan every week – we can assist with the entire process from choosing the best example to shipping it to Australia.
We specialise in direct car import from Japan and have been sourcing vehicles to order for private Australian buyers for over 25 years.
Every vehicle is hand-picked and we only source the very best.
We make Lexus RX 450h hybrid import easy with physical inspections of vehicles by experienced staff at over 30 auctions every week in the Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, and Kyushu / Fukuoka regions.
We start by focusing only on vehicles with the highest auction grades. But there is a LOT more involved than just basic auction grading !
Auction reports are often not reliable – we inspect every vehicle of interest in person to ensure it is up to our standard and has the options and features you want.
Most people (even Japanese export agents) do not realise that a significant % of vehicles in Japan are bought and sold by Japanese dealers for a quick profit between different auctions. If you are not aware of this you will almost certainly pay more than you needed to for exactly the same car.
Our experience with this situation alone will often save you more than the cost of our service fee.
Our import agent service includes a pre-check for past auction records using JCHC, at no cost to you. This allows us to rule out:
-
Cars recently auctioned and moved to a different auction for quick resale
-
Graded R (accident repair) cars changed to higher grades
-
Cars that have passed in unsold multiple times indicating a problem with the condition and/or price.
Hi Geoff,
I want to thank you for the unbelievable service you gave me during the search for an EVO 8 GSR and the patience and understanding you gave as my circumstances changed.
You’re a credit to the import industry & I hope to be able to use you again in the future 🙂
Kind regards,
Aaron
