Import an R32 GTR now or wait for the 25 Year Rule ?
COLLECTOR CAR
This 1994 Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R with only 71,280 km was inspected for a client at USS Nagoya auction on 3 June 2016.
Overall in excellent condition for age, clearly garaged in Japan and hardly used since 2009.
Auction sheet noted that books and paperwork were available. Non smoker’s car. Garaged. Original GTR logo key.
Timing belt sticker noted that this was replaced at 71,049 kms on 23 October 2009. Since then it appeared the car had been allowed to run out of registration and had been kept in storage, as it had only traveled 231 km since that time.
This October 1994 built GT-R was in very factory original condition with only a turbo timer and electronic road toll card (ETC) reader fitted.
It was clean and rust free underneath, and well maintained inside and out. Could do with a clean and polish. Paint chipping off the top of the engine cover but this was minimal for a GT-R of its age. Leather shift surround had some minor cracks and fading around the top, and the interior showed other small usual wear inside for the kms.
Paint was a bit wavy on the driver’s door but nothing too noticeable. “W2” also marked on the left rear quarter panel and the bonnet but all looked like original paint, maybe considered wavy due to polishing / clearcoat.
All original in the boot with factory tools, spare tyre etc. and very clean and tidy.
It sold for 3,285,000 Yen FOB. Total price in Australia at the time would have been approx. $53,300 complied plus tyres and ORC’s (calculated at a rate of 79 yen to the dollar).

The pictures are typical of the information we provide prior to auction for each vehicle of interest, with any faults shown so you can clearly see the condition before we discuss whether to bid, and your budget.
It is vital when sourcing your vehicle to use an agent that takes the time to physically check each vehicle and looks beyond the auction pictures and report to confirm condition. Some vehicles may have an unpleasant smoke or other odour, rust underneath, or other faults which are impossible to know without inspection.

I’m the happy owner of a 2003 Toyota Estima 3L Aeras S, sourced via Prestige Motorsport.
The car is immaculate (how can a 10 year old car have no gutter scrapes on the wheels!) and drives really well. Although I had a little anxiety of buying a car sight unseen, Geoff’s professional approach and his checks and balances (minimising the chance of it being a lemon) made my purchase much easier.
I think the effort involved importing a car is definitely worth it. Once you are aware of the timeframe involved, and you narrow down the list of what you are after, the range of vehicles available in Japan is amazingly large compared to local options.
I have no hesitation in recommending Prestige Motorsport.
Cheers Geoff !
