Toyota BZ4X EV Import Information and SEVS import eligibility for Australia
The May 2022+ Toyota BZ4X EV (XEAM10, YEAM15) fully electric ‘compact crossover SUV’ can be imported from Japan to Australia as it was not offered for sale here.
The BZ4X is also sold in Australia, Japan, the US, Canada, Europe, and China as the cross-badged Subaru Solterra.
A Lexus RZ 450e version is also sold in Australia, and while it is a more expensive offering with higher level finish and materials, panoramic glass roof and some other options, the basic EV specs remain the same.
The SEVS import regulations allow the BZ4X to be imported – up to the date that Toyota Australia is approved to import them in ‘Full Volume’ (yet to be determined).
At this stage Toyota Australia is indicating availability for Australian buyers sometime in 2024.
BZ4X EV Off-road Performance
The BZ4X EV is available from Japan in 4 options – G and Z trim levels in 2WD and 4WD / AWD. Z is the highest spec and is priced 500,000 Yen above the G.
Pricing and options below are from Toyota Japan (December 2023).
Due to low production numbers in Japan and a 3-4 month wait for new orders we expect limited numbers to be available through auction in Japan for the first couple of years of production.

Based on limited market / sales numbers, Australia typically receives a reduced spec for any model sold here new – meaning a greater choice of colours and specs when sourcing direct from Japan.

Contact us for current availability and pricing if you would like to import your own Toyota BZ4X EV to Australia.
Every vehicle of interest to our clients is carefully inspected in person at auction, with more pictures provided along with market pricing guidance to help set the budget.
We can assist with the entire process from choosing the best example to shipping it to Australia.
We specialise in direct car import from Japan and have been sourcing vehicles to order for private Australian buyers for over 25 years.
Every vehicle is hand-picked and we only source the very best.
We make Toyota BZ4X import easy with physical inspections of vehicles by experienced staff at over 30 auctions every week in the Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, and Kyushu / Fukuoka regions.
We start by focusing only on vehicles with the highest auction grades. But there is a LOT more involved than just basic auction grading !
Auction reports are often not reliable – we inspect every vehicle of interest in person to ensure it is up to our standard and has the options and features you want.
Most people (even Japanese export agents) do not realise that a significant % of vehicles in Japan are bought and sold by Japanese dealers for a quick profit between different auctions. If you are not aware of this you will almost certainly pay more than you needed to for exactly the same car.
Our experience with this situation alone will often save you more than the cost of our service fee.
Our import agent service includes a pre-check for past auction records using JCHC, at no cost to you. This allows us to rule out:
-
Cars recently auctioned and moved to a different auction for quick resale
-
Graded R (accident repair) cars changed to higher grades
-
Cars that have passed in unsold multiple times indicating a problem with the condition and/or price.
Hi Geoff,
Just letting you know that I picked up the Nissan Leaf on Monday, and I am absolutely blown away by the car, it’s incredibly fun to drive.
After receiving it from the compliance workshop I was able to top it off at the mall in Rhodes, and it drove back to Port Kembla with no trouble. It’s so fast off the mark, silent, and I haven’t yet paid a cent for any fuel.
I did get a first-hand feel for Australia’s EV infrastructure after initially going to the NRMA fast charger to find it faulty, then driving to Sydney markets to find that one faulty as well.
If you recall the SOH was 81% but it still gives me 180-190km for a full charge with my regular driving. I’m using L1/2 chargers only since getting it home.
I haven’t had the language changed on the infotainment and it doesn’t pick up local FM, but I can pair my phone for online radio anyway.
Your service was excellent and the process beats buying from a local dealership. I’m sure when I’m looking for my next EV you’ll be hearing from me!
Regards, Ian
