Mitsubishi Delica D5 Model Information and SEVS import eligibility for Australia
The Mitsubishi Delica D5 people mover is eligible for import to Australia under the new SEVS import regulations for 2007 to current petrol and diesel models. As it is approved under the “camper” criteria, compliance requires installation of a basic camping equipment package.
So petrol or diesel Mitsubishi Delica import to Australia is still possible even after the import regulation changes.

Note that the Mitsubishi Delica D5 CV5W petrol model was sold from 2007 and is more popular in Japan than the CV1W diesel, while the Mitsubishi Delica D5 CV1W diesel was only sold from 2012 onwards. As a result, the petrol models are easier to source and cost less to import than the diesels.
The Mitsubishi Delica has been a popular import to Australia for many years thanks to its combination of practicality, luxury features and off-road capabilities.
The Delica D:5 is the latest generation of Delica, with improved performance and technology over previous models and seating capacity for up to 8 passengers.
With its raised ride height, the Delica D5 has excellent approach, ramp and departure angles and has been designed with off-road use in mind. For convenience, the 2WD, 4WD and centre diff lock controls can all be selected from inside the cabin.
Compared to the previous Delica model, the D5 has an extra 20mm of ground clearance and 100mm more interior height, while total vehicle height is actually 100mm less.
Mitsubishi has built the Delica D5 with its next-generation RISE safety body technology on an all new global GS Platform that it shares with the Outlander, Lancer, Lancer Evolution X, and RSR (ASX in Australia).
Chassis improvements to the D5 have made it stronger, safer and lighter than the previous Delica generations with a significant weight saving of between 300kg and 500kg which improves both handling and fuel economy.
The CV5W petrol Delica D5 features Mitsubishi’s AWC four wheel drive system and an INVECS-III continuously variable transmission, coupled to a 4B12 2.4 L MIVEC VVT inline-four engine (similar to that found in the Outlander) producing 125kW (170hp) and delivering 9.6L/100km (10.4km/L) for city driving, and better still on the highway.
All D:5’s feature a 6 speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) with steering wheel mounted paddle shift available on G Power Package and higher spec D5’s (see model options and specifications below).
The CV1W diesel Delica D5 was available in Japan from late 2012 and marketed as the clean diesel variant of the D:5, with Mitsubishi’s brand new 2.2 L 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine (4N14) producing 148 PS of power and 360 Nm of torque.
Mitsubishi claims that this new 4N14 diesel engine is reliable at low revs and has smooth acceleration until high revs with fuel consumption of just 7.35L/100km (13.6 km/L) in mixed use driving, which is rather impressive for its size and performance.
The Delica D:5 is available with either 7 or 8 seats in a versatile arrangement including fully folding seats, captain’s chairs (with folding arm rest) and large slide rail distances front to rear. Interior space is excellent with ample head and leg room and a large number of convenient and well designed storage compartments tucked away throughout the vehicle.
The use of rust resistant steel, more undercoat and better under floor sealing has greatly improved corrosion resistance in the D5. Fender panels are made of a plastic resin so they are lighter and not affected by rust.

Contact us for current availability and pricing for Delica D5 import to Australia.
Every vehicle of interest to our clients is carefully inspected in person at auction, with more pictures provided along with market pricing guidance to help set the budget.
There is a good selection of Delica diesel and petrol models going through auction in Japan every week – we can assist with the entire process from choosing the best example to shipping it to Australia.
We specialise in direct car import from Japan and have been sourcing vehicles to order for private Australian buyers for over 25 years.
Every vehicle is hand-picked and we only source the very best.
We make Delica import easy with physical inspections of vehicles by experienced staff at over 30 auctions every week in the Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, and Kyushu / Fukuoka regions.
We start by focusing only on vehicles with the highest auction grades. But there is a LOT more involved than just basic auction grading !
Auction reports are often not reliable – we inspect every vehicle of interest in person to ensure it is up to our standard and has the options and features you want.
Most people (even Japanese export agents) do not realise that a significant % of vehicles in Japan are bought and sold by Japanese dealers for a quick profit between different auctions. If you are not aware of this you will almost certainly pay more than you needed to for exactly the same car.
Our experience with this situation alone will often save you more than the cost of our service fee.
Our import agent service includes a pre-check for past auction records using JCHC, at no cost to you. This allows us to rule out:
-
Cars recently auctioned and moved to a different auction for quick resale
-
Graded R (accident repair) cars changed to higher grades
-
Cars that have passed in unsold multiple times indicating a problem with the condition and/or price.
It’s been nearly 4 months since you guys helped me bring in my EVO 8 MR into Australia and I have to say I am more than happy with the quality of what I got. People ask me how I managed to get such a high grade vehicle when I never left the country during it’s auction. I tell them without hesitation that it took patience, trust and a professional and truly human outfit to help source me what I was looking for.
Above and beyond the fee we paid Prestige, I am very grateful that we did business with you and wish you and the guy(s) that attended auctions in Japan on our behalf, a merry Christmas and a good New Year.
I have no hesitation in recommending you to anyone who asks us about the process I went through.
One happy customer.
