This unique and classic 1973 Toyota Sprinter Trueno TE27 coupe with race prepared engine was inspected for a client at USS Tokyo auction on 23 July 2015.
Engine was changed and rebuilt by a well known company in Saitama that works on a lot of race cars. Work included heads, pistons, clutch, TRD cams, TRD LSD, stainless brake lines in the front, front and rear strut braces. Battery moved to rear, brake system — calipers and rotors from an AE86, rear leaf springs converted to coilovers, also coilovers to the front. Used to be a lighter colour, repainted in green, average paintwork condition. Some areas of rust — rear inner fenders, bogged up and starting to rust through again. Engine bay had a few small spots of rust, not too bad for age. Wheel arches had rust that needed repair. Engine, fuel delivery and transmission were good. Clutch was fine.
It sold for 2,150,000 YEN FOB, total price in Australia at the time would have been approx. $29,300 landed plus $1,000 to $1,200 compliance allowance, plus tyres if required, and ORC’s (calculated at a rate of 91 yen to the dollar).
We only source and import the best vehicles with clean and tidy interiors, and only vehicles we would be pleased to own ourselves. This is why we are constantly told by clients that the vehicles we source are well above the condition of most others on the local market.
The pictures are typical of the information we provide prior to auction for each vehicle of interest, with any faults shown so you can clearly see the condition before we discuss whether to bid, and your budget.
Whether you’d like to import a modified 1973 Toyota Sprinter Trueno TE27 coupe like this one, or another year, make or model, we can find it for you in nice condition.
It is vital when sourcing your vehicle to use an agent that takes the time to physically check each vehicle and looks beyond the auction pictures and report to confirm condition. Some vehicles may have an unpleasant smoke or other odour, rust underneath, or other faults which are impossible to know without inspection.

G’day Geoff
Here are some photos of my Toyota MR-2 GT that you obtained for me from Japan a few years ago and delivered to Tasmania. You may remember.
I bought the car with intention of racing it in Tarmac Rallies. So far we have run it in Targa Tasmania three times. This year we were 20th in the Classic Cars section out of a field of 100 competitors. Our car is stock except for the 17″ wheels which puts us in the highest modified class. Most of the vehicles we compete against are highly developed racing machines.
I am frequently asked where I got the car from and how to go about doing so. There is an opportunity to promote Prestige Motorsport on the vehicle if you are interested.
I hope you enjoy the photos.
Regards
Lawrie
