This black 2011 Nissan Elgrand Highway Star Premium 4WD 3.5L model with 44,000 kms was inspected for a client at HAA Kobe auction on 16 July 2016. Despite being graded 4.5 B it was in average used condition and should probably have been graded 4.
It is a good example of the type of vehicle that we don’t recommend to our clients, unless they wish to save money by buying lower quality. Typically this sort of vehicle would be bought by an importer for resale, once it had been cleaned, painted and detailed.
In contrast, this 2011 E52 Elgrand in very clean condition is the sort of vehicle we do recommend.
Premium options included dual power slide doors, power tailgate, front and rear parking sonar, factory around view monitor and TV, and full leather seats.
Right front bumper was scratched as pictured. Paint condition was fairly dirty and dull from outdoor storage. Tyres were close to bald. A set of snow tyres showed it had been used in the snow most likely on mountain roads in the Osaka area. As a result there was noticeable rust underneath the vehicle which was fairly significant for a 5 year old car.
Interior carpets were dirty, clearly a family car with small toys left in the car.
It sold for 2,345,000 Yen FOB, which would be approx. $39,400 complied (at 79.3 Yen to the dollar), plus tyres and on road costs.

The pictures are typical of the information we provide prior to auction for each vehicle of interest, with any faults shown so you can clearly see the condition before we discuss whether to bid, and your budget.
It is vital when sourcing your vehicle to use an agent that takes the time to physically check each vehicle and looks beyond the auction pictures and report to confirm condition. Some vehicles may have an unpleasant smoke or other odour, rust underneath, or other faults which are impossible to know without inspection.

I wanted to post up an honest review of my experience with the import process and Geoff.
I bought my car a few months ago now. I was pretty on top on what I wanted down to model, year, acceptable colours and even finding all the cars I wanted to bid on online by myself.
At 1AM on a Sunday morning after a few I was browsing the auction cars and I came to the decision I absolutely must bid on this car I found. I sent Geoff an email with enough details to get the ball rolling and then went to sleep.
First thing in the morning Geoff called me and the arrangements were made that he would broker my import and to bid on that car. I didn’t win that auction, but less than a week later I won at auction a top of the line model from the final year of production for a very reasonable price. In total I only had to make offers on 2 cars, however Geoff had a handful of cars checked out for me with very short notice.
Throughout the entire process Geoff has been very polite, honest, punctual, he always returns your calls, and will send messages and emails to make sure everything is OK and handled.
Geoff is a genuine automotive enthusiast. He has provided good advice on every part of the import process and worked with me to help me find and import exactly what I wanted.
If you think you want to import your own car I would highly suggest you get in touch with Geoff.
