This ungraded 2.7L 1976 Porsche 911 S in black was inspected for a client at ZIP Osaka auction in June 2018.

Probably a decent project car but would have needed a lot of work.

Different rear kit fitted, stickers said turbo when it was not. Aircon appeared to be upgraded with a different compressor, fittings looked like old R12 gas. No stickers to say what gas it was running.

Aftermarket “Intermotorsports” ignition coil. Silicone high resistance plug wires. Different ducting, and a few spots where it had worn through. Otherwise engine looked fairly standard.

Full aftermarket exhaust with stainless tips.

It had been repainted, with obvious orange peel and runs / imperfections in the paint. Bumpers were painted black, and had touch up paint.

Stripes were non-factory, had wrinkles etc in them like a quick job without attention to detail. Looked nice from about 2m away, close up the imperfections in the paint and decals were obvious.

Underneath had quite a lot of black undercoating. On boot floor there was quite a lot of crusty rust which peeled away at the touch.

Side members and underfloors looked solid but without being on a lift it was hard to be 100% certain. No rust in the door sills. Inside the boot also looked OK.

Both seats were worn and split along the seams and the centre inserts were completely cracked and needed to be redone. Dash was warped / deformed and had a spot in the centre above the radio where a crack was patched by sticking material over it.

Aircon vents were warped and vinyl was pulling away.

Musty smell inside so something had been damp probably due to cracked seals somewhere.

Had a slight vaccuum leak otherwise engine was running OK, intake tubes were cracked and needed replacement.

Not leaking oil. Clutch probably needed replacement, pedal felt spongy.

We avoided this vehicle due to the condition on inspection. It passed in (unsold) for 3,000,000 Yen FOB equivalent or approx. $42,500 landed in Australia @ 84 Yen to the dollar.

We only source the best vehicles with clean and tidy interiors, and only vehicles we would be pleased to own ourselves. This is why we are constantly told by clients that the vehicles we source are well above the condition of most others on the local market.

The pictures are typical of the information we provide prior to auction for each vehicle of interest, with any faults shown so you can clearly see the condition before we discuss whether to bid, and your budget.

Whether you’re looking for a 1976 Porsche 911 S like this, or another year, make or model, we can find it for you in nice condition.

It is vital when sourcing your vehicle to use an agent that takes the time to physically check each vehicle and looks beyond the auction pictures and report to confirm condition. Some vehicles may have an unpleasant smoke or other odour, rust underneath, or other faults which are impossible to know without inspection.
